IVF #1 – Egg count is in

I made it. The eggs made it. We are all still here and separate now.

We got 16 eggs! Yay! Everyone seems really excited about this number. Apparently when Eric arrived at the clinic to do his bit they were all excited over there too and announcing “She got 16 eggs! This is such a great result!”.

So, yay!

Of course, we don’t know how many of those were mature yet (if they aren’t mature they aren’t suitable for fertilisation). Nor do we know how many will fertilise but hey, this is a great result and a good start. You can’t hope for much more than that. Except sour gummy bears. Right now I’d give my eye teeth for sour gummy bears but I’m not allowed to drive and Eric has had to leave to go back to work. Boo.

Anyway, better I skip the sugar so no big deal. It would have been an indulgence.

Post procedure I feel OK. I’ve had a bit of bleeding and my tum tum is rather bloated. There was no pain initially as apparently after you are asleep they whack a bit of local anesthetic into the ovaries so they are numb for the whole process. This means you can ease into the pain afterwards as well. By the time we got home I felt it coming on so popped 2 paracetamol and stuck a hot water bottle on there and it all seems to be fine now.

Thank you so much for all your love and support this morning. It has been so great to have the well wishes. I also woke post procedure to text messages from two of my girlfriends so that was super awesome. It is nice to know that people care.

I just want to take this opportunity to give a big shout out to the team at Robina Procedure Centre. They were so fabulous. They all came to see me one by one and tell me about their role in theatre. Everyone was so lovely and warm and had a really positive attitude.

My favourite person (after my super talented specialist Dr Davidson of course who got me 16 eggs) was the anesthetist as he got me to sleep and kept me to sleep so I don’t remember a thing about the procedure despite the fact that it was only technically a twilight sedation. I know many places don’t do that level of sedation for Egg Retrieval and if you are going through the procedure or have been through the procedure with less drugs than I had then fist bumps to you. You are amazing.

Apparently the embryologist will call me tomorrow morning to let me know how many eggs fertilised so I will be back then with the news. Chat then. You guys are all awesome!

Now back to couch time and the TV.

  1. oh my goodness, my tum tum hurts now, too! This is just so freaky and fascinating at the same time! I’m so very happy for you and your harvest! That’s how I’m going to refer to it – harvest. I like harvest time. I can handle that! 🙂 Cause it’s all about me, ya know! LOL.

  2. Yay, 16! That sounds like a great number. I can’t wait to hear the report tomorrow. I’m glad you’re not feeling too sore. And please tell me you’ve gotten those sour gummy bears by now–you certainly deserve the treat!
